The year is 1982. Bent Ruhof Olsen moves from Aars to the big city of Aarhus to study engineering. He moves into a dormitory, where he meets some of the people who will turn his life upside down. With him, Bent has his parents' parting gift - a sparkling new video camera. And there's plenty to film in a world that is both captivating and terrifying.

2. Mod nye højder, 1982-83

The years are 1982-83. Bent has set himself a new goal - he wants a girlfriend. He is tempted by the unattainable Ulla Karin, but it is the nursing student Helle who teaches him what "scrotum" means. He also meets the cheerful Lene Fisker, who spreads good spirits in the dormitory hallway. On the other hand, the mood is almost zero when Bent returns home to Aars at Christmas time.

The year is 1984. Things are not just going wrong in Bent's relationship, but also in the relationships of the time. That's why Bent can make a living as a private detective specializing in infidelity. A practical joke leads to a long-awaited showdown between Bent and his domineering mother.

The year is 1985. Bent, Helle and the other friends from the dormitory go on holiday to Spain, where they experience total freedom. Together with Lene Fisker, Benjamin discovers a joyful side of life, and Ulla Karin indulges in Spanish delicacies. The idyll comes to an abrupt end when Bent gets a call from home.

5. Lykke, lykke, lykke, lykke, 1985

The year is 1985. The dormitory is having a moving-out party for the four of them, who are now moving in together. In a fit of unprecedented joy, Benjamin has a spectacular accident. Bent doesn't really want to look for work, but suddenly surprising opportunities open up. Bent's mother is blossoming after the divorce, but new conflicts are lurking in the family.

The year is 1986. Bent is happy - both for his new job at the local radio station and for his girlfriend Helle. Maybe a proposal is on the way. Bent has a hard time accepting his mother's new girlfriend. But he has just as much trouble understanding the surprising reason for his parents' divorce. And understanding Jesper Olsen's fatal setback at the 1986 World Cup.

The year is 1987. Bent has come to a standstill after Helle's affair. Can the relationship be repaired? At his radio job, Bent gets the scoop from a local housing shark, and on the family front, he gets good advice from his father Georg.

The year is 1989. Bent has quit his job at DR and is looking to move on with his life. He meets Helle again and gets some unpleasant details about her blossoming sex life. Bent himself is not on the lazy side now. He still has a women's jacket. And career-wise, Bent is rising vertically, as he happens to become the anchorman of the entire nation at a historically important time.

The year is 1990. It's New Year's Eve leading up to a new decade - and something big is about to happen. Bent's entire circle of friends has gathered. Will Bent and Ulla Karin find each other?
